I love you all so much

A sister who struggled with bullying said the following…

“This helped so much. I love you all so much. Thank you. With all sincerity, I ask Allah to grant you and your team happiness and contentment in this life and akhira. Jazakumullah kul khair.”

This sister requested her post regarding bullying remain unpublished on the site; however, we wanted to share “Fatima’s” response to her post for those who might also be struggling with bullying…

Assalamu ‘ alaykum, 

What you are describing sounds very difficult. It is hard to have difficult relationships and to not be able to figure out how to describe the bullying you are experiencing since it’s so subtle.

You might want to read a few books that describe bullying between girls (such as “Odd girl out” or “Queen bees and wannabees”) and see if that fits what you are going through. They might help you describe what is going on and think about ways to protect yourself. You might even find sections you could take with you to the school counselor to explain why you might want to switch classes etc if you decide that would be helpful. The school counselor might also be able to help you have a conversation with your parents to explain what is going on and to figure out a plan together for how to keep you emotionally safe.

Unfortunately because this type of aggression is so hard to prove and to stop, you may not be able to fully remove yourself from the situation until you graduate. In the meantime you could consider blocking this person from your social media accounts.

It’s important to remember that your value as a person is not up to others; it is up to Allah. So no matter what people say or do, you are special to Allah. The Prophet experienced a lot of bullying and it was painful for him. Yet, he knew that Allah had a purpose for him that was greater than anyone knew. So he relied on Allah and true companions who wanted the best for him in this world and the next. Perhaps remembering his struggle will help you find solace in Allah and in a few chosen close friends or family members and weather this storm with their help.
